Purchase: I purchased this through St. Croix Saddlery, first I did a trail on it for $3 per day plus shipping. Once I was sure my horse liked it I paid the remainder. I believe it was $159.90 plus tax.
Likes: It is extremely well made. The bit is made of the best metal alloys and is designed to to sit in the horse's mouth in a very correct way. When the bit is engaged it will effect the nose, mouth, chin and poll. It is also very versatile as you can use different rein configurations to achieve different results.
Dislikes: I wish I could use it in the hunter ring. Unfortunately it is not a conventional bit so it is not allowed. They do have more show ring appropriate bits available though. The other thing I don't like is that the finish tends to rub off onto the bridle. I called Mikmar and the customer service rep. was very nice and told me that I can scrub the finish of the areas of the bit that were attached to the bridle.
Quality: The construction and quality are exception. It is definitely made by a horseman and my equine dentist really likes how it sits in my horse's mouth.
Summary: Absolutely wonderful bit. It can be used in a variety of ways and on many horses. It takes an educated hand to use this bit properly, but any pro or experienced junior or amateur won't have any issues. Some horses may be resistant at first, but once ridden in it a few times they do began to like it.
