Purchase: I purchased these wonderful chaps at a great tack shop, "Classic Collections" in Putnam, Connecticut. I was in the market for half chaps and stopped in at this shop because a friend had given me a Christmas Gift Certificate! I was greeted by an incredibly helpful and knowledgeable salesperson and when she noticed that I was having a hard time finding a pair of chaps that fit me well, she directed me toward the Grand Prix Half Chaps.
Likes: At first glance of the name brand, Grand Prix, I immediately thought they were a bit "pricey" for chaps but when I found that they were on sale for $90.00 rather than the high pricing I noticed online, I agreed to try them on! After finding that the zipper zips from the top to bottom, which is a feature that makes getting into chaps so much easier, I was amazed at the instantaneous "custom" feel and look of the chaps as well as an immediate feeling of comfort. In other words, these chaps do not require any break in time at all. All told, these chaps, with their modified spanish cut topline and beautiful soft leather, are a worthwhile purchase!
Dislikes: ....nothing bad to report!
Quality: These chaps are made in Italy, what with the classic feel of their signature leather, the smoothness, the way they mold to the leg and the obvious attention the makers put into the stitching, the zipper, the under-boot straps, etc.; well, you'll be hard pressed to find a more well made chap or one as beautiful. I've only used them a few times but I know they will last ad infinity and more importantly, the close contact you'll get to your horse's sides without that bulky feel you get from other styles of chaps, will further insure your satisfaction!
Summary: The "bottom line" is simple, despite the fact that I paid a sale price, when I'm ready to purchase a pair in another color, I can honestly say that I won't mind paying "full" price (from $149.99 - $169.99) whether it be from a retail or online tack shop because simply stated, these chaps are worth every penny!
