Purchase: After I purchased my new hunter, I had to buy him a new saddle because my Hermes Essentielle didn't fit him. I absolutely hated the idea of parting with my Hermes but had no choice. So, my trainer (now former trainer) suggested the CWD. The rep came to the barn, allowed me to test ride one. After the 15 minute test ride, I wasn't thrilled with the extremely high pommel but he said that he could make it lower. he took some measurements of my horse's back and looked at me, scribbled down something and I paid him $3,800, in full, on the spot so that I could get my saddle in 6 weeks as opposed to 8-10 weeks.
Likes: Absolutely nothing!!
Dislikes: The saddle arrived in 12 weeks as opposed to the 6 I paid for and it looked nothing like the model I tried and was told I would get, and it did not fit my horse. Of course, I called the re who never returned my calls so I called the head company in France to complain. I have to say the were responsive in that they got the U.S. rep to come out and remeasure my horse. He resewed the saddle himself. It fitted the horse a bit better but it was off balance so I never felt comfortable in it.
Quality: The leather was not top quality even though you pay for it. The stitching holding the knee and thigh blocks was poor quality. They do not tell you how to care for it. I used saddle soap to clean it but it caused the soft leather to crack. So, I had to leave it dirty out of fear.
And, the billets are so very, very short. I have to use a bigger girth and a girth extender.
Summary: CWDs are not worth the money. My new trainer hates it and said the rep should never have sold the saddle to someone with my build, very long legs & thigh because the flaps aren't forward enough. But that's the whole point of paying top dollar to have a custom saddle made, I reminded him in jest.
