Purchase: I've always admired the selection of horse blankets that Greenhawk sells and recently, while looking through their catalogue, I started wondering about the coolers they sell.
Even though my horse is considered fit, she sweats easily and sweats a bit more then other horses I've worked with.
I spend a lot of time walking her out and was looking for something to help the cooling-out process, while making her comfortable and even avoiding chills once the temperature starts to go down.
This cooler, the Shedrow Super Dry Fitted Cooler, caught my eye. While normally selling for $79.95 Cdn, it was on sale for $20.00 at the Mississauga location!!
Likes: It fits my horse like a dream!
The material is so soft and it hugs her body, not ballooning out anywhere or sagging. The inside area where the horses shoulders are has nylon lining to help prevent shoulder rubs.
The cross biased surcingles are very adjustable. I even threw the blanket on our 15.2 Belgian / Quarter Horse cross for giggles (I originally bought it for my 14.3 Morgan / Thoroughbred) and the straps were able to expand enough to fit her as well.
It helps cool my horse out nicely, drawing away some of the moisture and speeding drying time up a little.
Greenhawk says this blanket could be used as a cooler or dress sheet and I'd have to agree. It looks great.
Dislikes: I wish there was a bit of fleece around the wither area, but it's not a huge deal. This blanket hasn't caused any rubs yet. I guess I'm just used to seeing a fleece wither area on a lot of the blankets nowadays.
I don't board at a stable, but it would also be nice (for those that do) to have an area on the inside of the blanket somewhere to mark the horses name and owner. If I were to try and mark it on just the inside of the blanket, it would probably bleed through as the material is quite thin. They'd have to have a soft tag or label to write on instead.
Quality: Great quality.
'Moisture Management' coating from CIBA. Subtle weave polyester outer, cross biased surcingles. Doubled nylon front strap with velcro and tuck-away tab. Double stitched binding, darted at the hips.
Summary: I liked it so much, I went out and got another the next day!
