All Purpose Saddles
Manufacturer: Wintec
Model: Wide
Category: All Purpose Saddles
Purchase: I bought it for £240 on equestrianclearance.com. I got it as no other saddle would fit my Welsh Cob! He has no wither so many saddles tended to slip from side to side.
Likes: This saddle is designed for wider types with no wither so it stayed put on my cobs back very well.
I also decided on this saddle because the gullet width can be easily changed and since my horse is very young, he will change shape a lot so this way I can just keep the same saddle, just changing the width nown and again. Far cheaper and easier all round! Its also not particularily hard to change the gullet which is good.
It also comes with Cair which I liked the idea of as since the panels are filled with air, it should be softer and more comfortable for my horse than normal flocking with no pressure points.
I have never been a fan of synthetic saddles but this one is nice. It looks almost like leather and is very comfy to ride in. Its also very light.
Dislikes: Since having "Flair" fitted into my other saddle (for one of my other horses) Ive noticed that its air panels feel much softer than with the Cair panels so I feel that maybe the Cair panels are too tightly filled with air and would prefer them to be as soft as the Flair saddle.
I find the knee rolls are too minimal, especially when it comes to jumping - I like to have something there to tuck my knee into for security.
Although I think the 4 girth strap idea is a good feature, when I tried using the 1st and 4th 'balancing' strap, it didnt look like it would hold the saddle very evenly on the horses back so I just use my girth on the 1st and 3rd straps which is better.
I hate the girth straps on synthetic saddles as they are never very supple so sometimes girthing up can be difficult. I would ideally like leather straps.
Quality: It is well made and has many fatures so clearly a lot of thought has gone into the saddle. This is great considering it is a cheap saddle when compared to many leather saddles (of which I feel this is as good a quality!).
Summary: A great saddle if you have a wide horse with no wither who is difficult to fit a saddle to without it slipping. This fits well, comes with air panels and is very easily changed to fit other horses or to fit the same horse if it changes shape which saves money. Its quite cheap yet comes with many features and is of good quality.
