Purchase: I paid about £35 for this rug / sheet ordered from the Jumpers website. I bought it as my native horse was being very irritated by flies and seemed to show signs of mild sweetitch. I bought this one as it came with a detachable neck and since he was rubbing out his mane, I thought this was a good idea.
Likes: Its very light and airy feeling so I didnt think he got hot in it even on the hottest summer day. It was also white which helped keep the sun of him (as he's black).
Dislikes: It slipped sideways no matter how many times I played around with the leg straps! So never looked very comfortable on him.
The neck rug was a complete waste of time because the mesh was so soft that the neck part simply gathered up at the bottom by his wither and flopped about, never staying up his neck and protecting him like it should.
My horse got very irritated by the top ring where the neck rug connected to the rug itself. I think it dug into his back as he kept fidgeting when I touched the area and was always flicking his coat around there.
I had to take the sheet off completely after only a weeks use, as it seemed to annoy him so much, and the neck part simply wasnt doing its job at all.
Quality: It didnt rip in the time I used it which is good considering my horse is quite troublesome! I just think the mesh was simply too soft - it it were stiffer then maybe the neck part would stay up rather than flop around everywhere. I also did not like the clips as I felt they were quite cheap and not very strong. They were also positioned badly (or not enough padding was under them) so they drove my horse mad. I would also have prefered a bigger tail flap since this is also a place horses rub.
Summary: Maybe the sheet would be ok by itself, however with the neck it wasnt good at all. I did not like the rug and neither did my horse! So I wasted my money on just a weeks use of it, meaning I'll have to fork out more money next summer for an entirely new different fly rug!
