Purchase: In the market for a new pair of Paddock Boots, I decided to take a chance on Ariat. I usually wear Grand Prix, but I wanted something different (you know us equestrians, always wanting to see if the grass really IS greener on the other side!). I purchased these boots through a nationally-known retail store for about 100 dollars.
Likes: Ariat offers tremendous comfort, especially after walking around (up and down hills as well) horse shows all day. The arch support is amazing. I love the plastic eyelets, they don't shred your boot laces like steel ones do. The stitching is very precise, and you feel like you have enough boot around your foot to save yourself from stomping hooves.
Dislikes: Yes, the leather does break down easily and you will have to purchase a new pair within a year; HOWEVER, I have covered up all of my paddock boots with boot rubbers for about 15 years now and all of them have lasted for several years.
Quality: At first glance, you will see a quality product. These are not your run-of-the-mill, ultra-stiff leather boots. They offer a "moisture-wicking" lining, which helps keep one's foot cool during the summer and keeps the toes from freezing in the winter. The eyelets are large enough for laces, but not too big that one's laces keep getting loose after 15 minutes of riding. In addition, the eyelets and hooks are plastic, so they won't rip boot laces apart after 2 rides. And WOW are they comfortable.
Summary: These are great boots for the money--BUT COVER THEM WITH BOOT RUBBERS (I would suggest that with any boot when your around urine, mud, water, and dry sand all day).
