Purchase: I've bought Kensington English saddle pads through SmartPak.com as well as at my local tack store, "J.C. Saddlery" in Tampa FL. I paid approximately $35.00 per pad, a great value for the money, especially considering how great these pads look and how long they last.
Likes: I have a Kensington saddle pad for each of my four horses. The Kensington saddle pad is simply the best. Aside from their attractive plaid patterns, these pads truly keep sweat from reaching through to the saddle, and best of all, they only need to be hosed off for cleaning. These pads hold their shape and color and still look new year after year. Another advantage is the matching tack available in the same Kensington plaids. I have matching halters for each of my horses and they hold up as long and as well as the saddle pads. Until recently, there was no reason for me to buy another pad. But I recently heard that Kensington is introducing 3 new color schemes in April 2007: sage green/with yellow, blue with grey and plum with pink. Although I haven't seen them yet, I've already ordered a new blue with grey pad and matching halter for my new Percheron/Thoroughbred Cross and I can't wait to see it!
Dislikes: The only thing I don't like about the Kensington Pads is that they don't come in plain solid colors. Although the plaid is nice (and plaid is Kensington's signature design), I'd like to buy the same pad in solid colors.
Quality: These pads are extremely well made. Some of the gals at my barn have had their Kensington pads for 3 or more years and they still look good even after using them almost every day.
Summary: If you have a Kensington saddle pad, there's no reason to buy another pad (except if you want one in every color!). They last forever, protect your saddle from sweat and provide great cushion for your horse from your saddle.
