Purchase: My boyfriend has a bad back and so riding is becoming harder on him. He started to get interested in the idea of driving his horse after seeing a friend with his own team. Sitting in a cart, as opposed to riding in a saddle, seemed like it would have a much smoother motion. I looked around on Ebay, with the help of a friend, and came across this harness. A horse sized black leather driving harness from the States (I live in Canada). With the price of the harness, duty and taxes, it came out to just over $300.

Likes: This harness is probably a lot fancier then needed for a pleasure driving harness, but I loved the pictures on Ebay and wanted the best for my boyfriend. I got him a black leather driving harness that's covered in silver spots (studs) with silver hardware. It's perfectly suitable for the show ring, but makes his horse look awesome on pleasure drives. Right from the box, the leather was buttery and smooth with tight, even stitching. I've seen nylon harnesses locally for $300 (without tax) so I was thrilled to be getting a really good quality leather harness for around that price, after taxes! The leather doesn't have any odd smells to it, and is thick but not cardboard-like. The spots are all evenly placed.

Dislikes: Being a relative newbie to driving harnesses, my boyfriend and I had one heck of a time figuring out how to put it together. Everything came in pieces, packed individually in the box. There were no diagrams. We managed to figure out some of where the pieces went and left the rest up to our friend, who's an experienced driver, when he was able to come over. I know the Ebay sellers username, but I have no idea who manufactured the harness. With quality such as this, I really wish there was a manufacturers name or address with the harness. He or she should be extremely proud with their workmanship and product quality. Cleaning it is a bit of a pain, because of all the spots, but it is so gorgeous. Gives us a good opportunity to double-check the stitching and hardware anyway.

Quality: Amazing quality. I'd expect to pay at least double for this harness anywhere else. It's my "steal of the year". With a great deal of use in a variety of weather conditions, this harness has held up regardless.

Summary: The only reason I'm giving this a rating of 5 is because there is no 6! I'm so happy this worked like I had hoped. And as it turns out, driving IS, in fact, easier on his back.
