Purchase: I picked this saddle because it seemed fairly lightweight and versatile. It also has a high cantle, which gives me a bit of security when we're running barrels or taking a jaunt down the trail.
I paid approximately $350 Cdn for it on sale (without taxes), years ago, from Frontier Saddlery in Stouffville, Ontario. Regularly it's around $500. As a bonus, it came with a fitted saddle pad.
Likes: It's a really comfortable saddle and the suede seat adds even more security.
The regular quarter horse bars fit a variety of horses I ride, so there's not really a need for multiple western saddles.
Dislikes: My boyfriend uses this saddle from time to time, and we had to make some adjustments so it could fit him properly.
He's 6'3" and the fenders were too short for him (I'm only 5'2"). He added a strip of leather to either side to lengthen them and now they can be adjusted for either of us.
For trail riding purposes, I like a lot of D rings to hold gear (ie: halters, saddle bags, etc). This saddle didn't come with many, so I added a few around the back of the skirt.
Quality: Good quality leather and sound construction, especially for a cheaper saddle. It's held up amazingly well with only a few minor leather stains (from water damage) from over the years.
Summary: It's a good saddle, but I've mainly been riding english for the past while. My boyfriend also occasionally uses this saddle, as mentioned above, but has just started driving his horse.
It's nice to have around though.
