Purchase: I have 5 of these pads and have been using them on all of my horses. I bought them at C & W Tack on their recommendation for keeping saddles from sliding forward in steep country. They cost $60.00 each and were well worth it.
Likes: One mare has to have a custom saddle to be wide enough to fit her without rubbing and the tacky pad keeps the saddle from rolling when getting on and off. She has worn a breaching when used in the mountains and the saddle still moved and rubbed her. The tacky pad solved the problem. The soft form also allows it to form to horses with slight defects in the back line and lets me use my saddles without over padding. My grandchildren use theirs for both under pad showing and to keep their game saddles in place in speed events. It allows them to ride a slightly looser saddle without our worrying about it rolling.
Dislikes: You cannot forget and set them on metal in warm weather, they will stick and come apart. They will scuff up the hair on a long ride, but do not make the horse sore.
Quality: The open vent style seems to encourage air flow. I have had two of them for two years and they have held up well. They do need to be washed carefully and often to get the best use from them. They seem to clean best with diluted dish soap and warm water and let to air dry on a wooden rack. Repeat do not lay or hang over metal in even slightly warm weather as they will stick and tear the material.
Summary: I like the tacky too pads very much and think that of the 100s of dollars I have spent on pads in the last 2 years these have been the best all around buy.
