Purchase: The Siegfried VSD was my first saddle purchase; I bought it at the tack shop I was working at, but I got an employee discount. It typically retails between $1700 and $2000.
Likes: Everything. It is an almost universal fit (for horse and rider). I chose the VSD because although I do jump, 90% of the time I ride Dressage. Although I now have another saddle for jumping, this is still my favorite. Stubbens are fantastic. The quality of material and construction is amazing.
Dislikes: If I had not gotten an employee discount, it would have been the price. It isn't nearly as steep as an Hermes, but that's good, and it's worth every penny.
Quality: Although I prefer wool flocking, I really dislike traditional wood trees--they tend to warp. The Stubben tree is fantastic, flexible and sturdy. I adore the leather--after spending a cross-country day in the rain, it only took a little oiling to make it good as new. The stitching is tight enough to last years without repairs.
Summary: I started riding in an old Siegfried VSS, so Stubben was where I started looking when I wanted to purchase a new saddle. I chose the Siegfried VSD because 90% of the time I ride Dressage. The quality and comfort of the saddle are unsurpassed. Even better, working with Stubben is a dream. They make every effort to modify their saddles for the individual rider--they're quite willing to change around thigh blocks and knee rolls. A fantastic saddle and wonderful company.
