Purchase: I needed a running martingale for my mare as she gets hyper when we're out on the trail and throws her head around.
I didn't need a show quality martingale so the Vala Running Martingale, available from Greenhawk locations for around $20.00 Cdn, fit the bill.
Likes: It's a good working quality martingale and has remained in sound condition, despite being tugged on and nibbled by my mouthy horse.
The leather, while not the greatest quality, gets stiff after its been dampened by sweat but can be suppled again with a good oiling.
Dislikes: The shiny glaze wore off quickly. After multiple uses and oilings, the glaze started to wear off, and so did some of the dye. The martingale is now a 'flat' havana colour.
This isn't a complaint, but something for others to think about when considering this martingale. I knew what I was getting for the price I paid, so I'm still satisfied.
Quality: Flat leather running martingale with silver rings and hardware. The stitching is tight and even.
Summary: A good martingale for schooling or trail riding. If I wanted to take this into a show, I would give it a really good oiling and it would be passable.
For $20.00 though, this is perfect for what I need right now.
