Manufacturer: Wintec
Model: Pro Jumping with Cair
Category: Jumping Saddles

Purchase: I bought this saddle new from Adam's Horse Supply a year ago (2006) and paid under $700 for it, complete with a full set of gullets.

Likes: I bought this saddle because I had a young, athletic horse who spooked a lot. My friend had one and I felt really secure when I sat in her's so I bought one. It's easy to stay in even if your horse spooks (I never came out of it) because it has great, big, soft knee pads that mold to your shape and large velcro knee blocks that you can move around to suit you. Also has removable velcro thigh/calf blocks. The seat material is also very grippy so there is NO slipping around. Very light-weight saddle. Due to the synthetic material- nothing much hurts it.

Dislikes: Despite all of that- the balance of this saddle DOES not work for me. It is almost impossible for me to ride correctly in this saddle- it puts my leg very far forward and it's not really possible to ride with your heel underneath your hip as you are supposed to. I have a very solid seat and position, but in this saddle I have to struggle to keep my position. This is also true over fences. My friend has the very same complaint about her saddle- so we both upgraded. You can however, sit the canter easily in this saddle- which is nice.

Quality: Typical quality for Wintec. Both my friend and I ride about 3-5X a week and our saddles are showing wear after a year. I don't really recommend them as saddles that you ride in every day. They seem to work better for weekend, occasional riders who are beginner to intermediate riders.

Summary: It's a very secure saddle but it can put many riders in an unbalanced incorrect position. If it doesn't do that to you and you don't ride all week long, it's a useful, comfortable saddle- especially if you have young, unpredictable horses!
