Purchase: Found Dixieland Gaited Saddles on-line. Had a hard to fit spotted racking horse and was wavering about a treeless saddle to get around the "tree fit" issue. Kept going back and looking at the Dixieland site because everything else I found that sent you the "fit forms" was ALOT more expensive. Almost seemed too good to be true for the money. Normally those kind of things turn out to be just that----not this time. I paid $1089 for my saddle and their base saddle is $795.
Likes: It fits my horse! I had some reservations because my horse is strangely thick in his upper shoulders and I had my vet (who is a expert at saddle fit) come check it for me. He was more than pleased and impressed and said it was better than anything that I had ever ridden on him.
Dislikes: My back latigo straps were a bit short. That's it. Amazing huh?
Quality: This saddle is absolutely beautiful and the quality of the workmanship, leather and construction is top notch. My understanding is the saddle makers are an Amish family and this is definitely their specialty. They are like Gateway computers----they don't build one till they get an order to your specifications!
Summary: I was so concerned about the fit that at first I did not really appreciate how truly beautiful this saddle is. Now that I know the fit is what I was looking for I am just falling in love with this saddle. I spend a lot of time on my horse in the woods and this saddle is everything I was looking for in every way. You also get a bonus in Cynthis Wright, who is the owner of this company. She is a joy to work with and always timely in getting back to you whatever your concerns or issues. All around this was a wonderful experience and my brother ordered a saddle at the same time I did and is just as thrilled as I am.
