Purchase: I bought my Dakota barrel saddle second hand from a friend in 1999. It was barely used, and I had been with her when she purchased it new. My horse at the time was older and needed his weight shifted back off of his front legs. I also thought that it would be more relaxed and comfortable to ride Western than English for hours on trail. The saddle cost $450.
Likes: This is a great saddle for medium tall to tall women. During the five years that I have owned this saddle I have run gymkhana, clocked many trail miles, and had it in the ocean several times. Very secure, without too much leather between horse and rider. Close contact for a Western saddle. It fits every horse from a 13.3 pony to a Belgian Draft. My saddle even has it's own little fan club. It has seen a lot of use, but still cleans up well enough to ride in the rodeo parade.
Dislikes: The fenders were stiff for a long time, it actually took an ocean soaking, with two hour wet ride back to the trailer for them to finally turn.
Quality: The saddle is fairly light. Good withers clearence up front, haven't found a horse that the saddle has rubbed. The only thing that I have had to replace are the little straps that tie around down by the stirrups because I lost one.
Summary: This is a really good saddle that did not cost a fortune. Highly useable piece of equipment.
