Purchase: I purchased my saddle online from Freeform USA for $1400, and they allowed me to ride in it for 2 weeks before I made a decision. I have a very large Friesian Sport Horse (FriesianxThoroughbred) and she has a very wide and flat back. I had tried 4 other saddles from well known manufacturers, but none fit her. I did some research online and decided to try a treeless saddle.
Likes: From the very first moment I put the Freeform saddle on her and sat in it, I loved it! It fits her like a dream, and doesn't impeded her movement in the least little bit. It looks like a dressage saddle and the black is very classy against her black coat. It is made from Italian calf-skin, so it's quality is wonderful and soft. It's also the most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden in. I even opted to use it instead of my husband's Tucker saddle on a long trail ride on a friend's horse. I also love that it fits any horse, so I don't have to worry about saddle fitting problems. I also love that I can feel absolutely everything my horse is doing due to the lack of a tree, yet it is definitely not a bareback pad. There is plenty of structure to it, but it conforms perfectly to my horse.
Dislikes: The saddle comes with what they call a "stirrup plate" (an industrial strength velcro piece with d rings) that has leathers attached to it. I didn't like the leathers that came with the saddle because they had a strange buckle adjustment that was very difficult to manage. I also think they should design a better system of attaching the leathers to the plate so that they do not have to be sewn on.
Quality: The construction of the saddle is great, but I did opt to use my own leathers. I ordered a stirrup plate and sewed my own leathers to it. The quality of the saddle is superb, and it's holding up very well, is easy to take care of, and is incredibly light. The underside of the saddle has a non-slip material on it as does the recommended pad which is hypoallergenic and very breathable and doesn't pull or pinch my horse. With all this non-slip material my saddle stays in place with absolutely no slipping.
Summary: You can order this saddle in many different configurations. You can get different colored suede, brown leather, any number of d rings, western style, extra seats in different sizes, and short-back models for ponies or small horses. I would definitely buy another Freeform saddle because the fit and quality is worth the price I paid for it.
