Purchase: Purchased from Montana Mountain Horse for $940 which included upgraded leather, rear cinch, padded seat, synthetic fleece, leather latigo, brass conchos.
Likes: Melissa Sipe at Montana Mountain Horse provided great customer service. My horse is very wide in front with a short back that makes him quite hard to fit. I already owned a flexible panel saddle that fits him wonderfully, but mine weighs 50 lbs. My horse is getting taller and I'm getting older & arthritic so I wanted something lighter-weight that I could get on him without having to stand on the mounting block! Melissa sent me a gaited tree (which is slightly wider than a Full Quarter Horse tree) to try on m horse before the saddle was even built. To make a long story short it fits the horse like a glove and fits me too. I was worried about the "Gaited" designation - but it does NOT throw me back on my pockets and the stirrups are hung properly so my leg is under me where it should be. As an added bonus the "Billings" model is FULLY TOOLED. You would pay a LOT MORE for that elsewhere.
Dislikes: I wish I had learned about Montana Mountain Horse saddles a lot SOONER.
Quality: Frankly, at this price I was expecting a so-so saddle of questionable workmanship but it is really nice. I DO recommend the upgraded leather - it is a bargain and looks terrific.
Summary: The "Billings" has round skirts for my horse's short back but I know that is not everyone's cup of tea. Montana Mountain Horse has many, many models & colors & options to choose from and if you don't see what you want Melissa will help you find it. These guys get an "A" for providing a great product at a SUPER-competitive price.
