Purchase: My kids learned to ride on two Stubben Rex Saddles. One was German made 14" which I purchased used at a tack shop in Arizona in a lovely dark brown leather. It needed new suede on the knee patches but with a quick send to Stubben USA, that was fixed and it looks beautiful. This saddle worked so well that when my kids outgrew it, I searched for another and found a newer Swiss made 16" in a lighter orange shade of leather which I also purchased used from the owner in new condition.
Likes: Both of these saddles fit our Dartmoor and Welsh ponies like a charm and when I discussed it with others who own Stubben Rex saddles, they agreed that they seem to fit any wide pony.
My sons performed in them jumping, dressage, under saddle and pony club activities with absolutely no complaints from trainer, rider or mount. My saddles still look GREAT(even the one that is probably 30+ years old.)
Our trainer loved the fact that I was able to find such a small saddle for them to begin with. I don't know if they still make them this small but I can tell you this one will never be sold. It will go on to teach my grandchildren to ride.
Dislikes: In all honesty, there is nothing I don't like about this saddle. It has met every need.
Quality: Like most European products, this saddle is very well constructed of quality leather that looks great over time and use as my older saddle has proved.
Summary: When it comes to children and ponies, I would place this saddle as my first choice.
