Manufacturer: Dixieland Gaited Saddles
Model: Gaited Saddle with Endurance Skirt
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I was looking for a gaited saddle for my new Foxtrotter and found Dixieland on line. Everything else I had seen was very expensive, and I was concerned about paying so much for a saddle I knew little about. They happened to have an in stock saddle on a Steele tree that was designed for Foxtrotters. I paid about $750 which included a matching breast collar and shipping.
Likes: The comfort is superior to anything I have ridden, the leather quality and craftsmanship are exceptional, the design is very functional and secure, tooling is hand done and beautiful and the fit on my Foxtrotter is excellent. She is obviously very comfortable and moving nicely. Since this was an in stock saddle, it was not my first choice in color, but it is beautiful. I am looking forward to ordering a black, round skirt model for showing my Foxtrotter.
Dislikes: Not a person in my family has found a fault with this saddle.
Quality: When the saddle arrived, my whole family oood and ahhhd. We could tell before lifting it out of the box that the quality was exceptional. The leather is the best, and is generously hand rubbed with finish to make it very soft and pliable. Even the areas in the underneath parts that many saddle makers neglect, are all finished and soft. From ride number one, I have never had any strained joints or muscles from cardboard like, stiff leather. My stirrups and fenders were very comfortable on my legs. Speaking of comfort, the extra padded seat is fantastic! Why would anyone not want a little extra in that area. The latigo strings are securely in place and can take the strain of being pulled on to help in mounting (my son got an inexpensive saddle by a cheap saddle maker, and the first time he mounted, the place where the strings attached, pulled right out of the skirting to reveal little staples) You won't find any cheap materials or cut corners in a Dixieland saddle. In every detail, this saddle is one that will go the distance and be a sound investment.
Summary: In addition to the fantastic saddle, Cynthia was exceptionally sweet and helpful in her service. Sometimes people make you feel silly when you are a little new at things, but Cynthia was always gracious and went the extra mile to make sure we got what we needed. She is obviously more interested in serving her customers than just selling a product, and that is a huge refreshment. Since then she has recently helped us design a gaited saddle with reinforced tree for roping for my husband which we are looking forward to seeing! (We'll post another review when it comes). She again has gone the extra mile to get all the information we needed to put together this custom order, and all for a fantastic price. Since we received this saddle, I haven't even thought about shopping around for our other saddle needs. We just called Dixieland!
