Purchase: This helmet was purchased at The Horse and Hound tack shop in Butler Pa for 125.00, which included a 15 % discount offered by the store. I believe the original list was near 150.00.
Likes: I purchased this helmet for my daughter to show in. We tried every major brand and none of them fit. My daughter is only nine years old, and while the other helmets fit her head, they sat on her ears. The JR8 is designed with junior riders in mind, and fit perfectly. The styling is wonderful- we chose the wide charcoal stripe to match her coat. The suede finish wipes clean and looks amazing, and does not rub off or squish flat like velvet.
Dislikes: My only complaint would be that the lining is not removable. It would be wonderful to be able to take out and wash the lining, but since its only worn for showing its ok.... I would consider that to be a problem for an older rider or someone who will wear it daily. Charles Owen does make a helmet refresher spray, but I'm not too fond of spraying chemicals on my child's clothing.
Quality: This helmet is beautiful inside and out. I could not find a single flaw, and has held up very well, although it is just for show. Charles Owen will also replace the helmet if it is involved in an accident at a very reduced cost.
Summary: I would recommend this helmet for juniors who want to look great in the ring without worrying about their helmet. This helmet holds up to rain and dust and has a really unique styling that other companies are already rushing to copy.
