Likes: First off, these boots are SO COMFORTABLE!!! The RCS soles on the inside and the rubber outer soles just absorb the shock of EVERYTHING. I suffer with a bad back and hip which my normal leather soled riding boots do nothing to help but these boots make my back happy. I have a 20-40 minute walk to the stables every day and I could quite happily walk the distance in these. I have a very high instep which makes putting normal dress boots impossible on but these field boots are quite easy to put on as they zip right down to the heel and the laces can be let out. The shafts of the boots are cuff lined in leather with the rest of the shaft being lined in what the manufacturer calls a "Drilex Wickable lining". It is soft and seems like it would be cool in the summer and fairly warm in the winter although it is only May here so I have yet to test it in the extreme temperatures.
Dislikes: Although they have lovely spanish cut tops, they are still a bit too short for my 5'9" height but that is to be expected with ready made boots. The only other thing is the little hard plastic "nubby" bits at the sides of the heels which are supposed to be spur rests bother me. I like traditional styling in a boots and I find those nubby bits detract from the overall appearance of the boot. The calf sizes are "generous" and leave large gaps at the top which isn't really acceptable for a boot you want to use for showing but are fine for normal riding. More about the calf sizing below.
Quality: The boot seems like it is very well made, the sole is glued on however so I do not know how this would affect the soles being replaced/repaired in the future when they wear out. The leather is soft and is comfortable which is nice when breaking in boots as my other pair of show boots gave me blisters on the ankles from being so stiff! Buy your exact shoe size in these boots and if you are a half size, GET THE NEXT SIZE UP as the feet run a bit smallish (my big feet look lovely and small in them). Ironically, the calf sizes are rather generous. I got the wide calf in my boots as my left leg is 15 1/2" and my right leg is 16" but there is still loads of room left in the legs for larger calf than mine. Another reason why it may be worth trying these boots on in person to check your size.
Summary: Although I do not think these boots are show quality, they are perfect as a second pair for schooling, stable work, hacking out, etc. They look nice and are comfy, a rare combination!
