Purchase: I bought this saddle almost new online after reading reviews from others on Chronicle of the Horse forums. I paid $800 for the saddle but that included new leathers.

Likes: I love the quality of this saddle! Normally saddles of this quality sell for double the price. It has soft, supple bridle leather and the seat and knee rolls are buttery soft. The stitching is tight and even and you can see how well made it it. I've had the saddle about a month and every time I oil it, it looks more and more beautiful and feels so soft and supple! Beyond that, the saddle is very well balanced and very comfortable. It reminds me of a butet or of the old pessoas. The seat is comfy and secure without being too deep and it allows nice close contact.

Dislikes: The bridle leather was very slick and slippery to break in. At first I was worried it would always be slick, because I've always had saddles with the "pebbled" leather. But it only took a few weeks before the saddle lost the slipperiness and is not sticky and soft! I also didn't like the thigh blocks. I tried to get used to them for 2-3 weeks, but I don't think they hit me in the right place. So I took them off (very easy), and I liked the saddle even more!

Quality: I can't comment on how long it will last, but the quality is that you'd expect from a $1800 and up saddle. Look at the new Pessoas made in Argentina and this one is half the price with 10x better leather!! So far, no complaints on quality!

Summary: I highly recommend this saddle if you are looking at saddles such as Pessoa, Henri De Rivel, Collegiate, Bates, etc. You can find them cheap used (mine was pricey for used) or around $1050 online. You will get much better quality than the above mentioned saddles with the comfort and balance of a $2000+ saddle. I don't think you'd be disappointed - wish they were more popular in the US!!
