Reining Saddles
Manufacturer: Circle G
Model: Reining Saddle
Category: Reining Saddles
Purchase: I found this saddle by accident, on sale at an IHSA show when I went to visit Findlay's equestrian program in Ohio. I made the mistake of sitting in it, and so I paid $900 for this beautiful saddle, which i then had to tote through 3 airports on the way home. I love this saddle.
Likes: The lovely shape got me first. Butterfly skirts, deep floral tooling, and an overall quality to the saddle's presentation draw the eye to this saddle. But the ride is definitely the best part. The seat is the best shaped seat I've ever sat in in a western saddle. On top of that, the fenders are hung just right so I can keep my legs under me without a fight. It's got a wonderful close contact, so riding in this saddle is a beautiful thing. The silver is reserved to the usual conchos, but somehow it doesn't need any more.
Dislikes: The conchos do not match the quality of the rest of the saddle and have begun to get discolored. They're easily replaced, however. I also wish that the stirrup leather excess were contained to the inside of the fender, since I've never been successful in containing excess in stirrup hobbles.
Quality: Great quality saddle leather is on par with (or maybe better than?) my mother's $2500 Circle Y show saddle. The tooling has been resistant to collecting muck even after a year of heavy and often daily use. The only break-in necessary was turning the fenders, which was easily accomplished with a broom handle. This saddle fit my hard-to-fit high-withered Paint mare nearly perfectly - almost NO western saddles can fit her!
Summary: I want a silvered Equitation saddle with this seat, but the absolute only other Circle G I've been able to find was a roper. This has been an excellent saddle, great during training and beautiful enough in its simple way for open or local breed shows. Obviously, for higher level shows it would need more silver. I've used this in both kinds of shows, doing Pleasure and Reining and Working Cowhorse. Now I'm looking forward to starting my new filly with this in the coming months!
