Purchase: I was tired of hauling two heavy western saddles out every time I wanted to ride my horses. My trainer suggested I try a Marciante Endurance Saddle. Since he lived not too far away(I live in Sedona,AZ, he in Paulden), I gave him a call and described what I was looking for. I had a custom saddle and pad made for around $650.00 that was not only light, but fit both my horses (an Appy/Qtr and a Spanish Barb-type mustang). We're talking complete opposites, here.
Likes: This saddle is is very light, with smooth lines. I get no chafing on the inner thigh and can spend hours in the saddle without becoming saddle-sore. I take this saddle with me on cattle drives where I spend and average of 7-9 hours in the saddle every day, on a variety of horses. I can climb out of the saddle at the end of the day and still stand up! The custom saddle pad allows for different pressure points unique to each horse because it gives and takes, I've not had a sore on a horse, yet. This saddle even fits in my suitcase!
Dislikes: The only negative are the stirrups. While functional, they look cheap and are a bit too narrow and slippery. I had them completely wrapped in leather and that did the trick.
Quality: The construction is good, the leather of high quality. The stitching, while uneven in spots, is still intact. This saddle has been in some very rough weather and been ridden hard. It cleans up well and has not suffered from the soakings it has received on occasion. It is six years old and still looks almost new.
Summary: I have had horses for forty years and a variety of saddles. This Marciante saddle is a keeper. It is easy to handle, maintain and most of all...extremely comfortable. At my age, I can say it allows me to spend many more hours in the saddle than I otherwise could.
