Manufacturer: Specialized Saddles
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I purchased my Specialized International, as a used Demo saddle, through reps Rick and Carol Brand of Lost Juniper Ranch in Oreana Idaho. I was in need of replacing an English saddle that was not fitting. I believe new this model sells for just over $1600.
Likes: The ability to customized the saddle to each individual horse is great; www.specializedsaddles.com. I love the style of the International, and the English dressage type of girthing makes it really easy to cinch up even from the saddle. I like the fact the company continues to improve the products, keeps up with research and is open to user input. It is nice they have saddle reps all over the country to help with any fitting you may need help with, and video's, online directions and the owner is helpful and willing to work with you. Rick and Carol have gone above and beyond just customer support, as has David Kaden the owner.
Dislikes: The closer your horse is to the shape of the tree the easier the shimming/fitting system is to use. It would be nice to have more tree shape options, they only offer two at the moment. They have made such leaps in improvements since I purchased my saddle, some of the things I would have changed have been upgraded.
Quality: The leather is very lightweight which makes for immediate break-in, but also will wear faster. The quality continues to go up, but there is a give and take on things to keep the price under $2000.
Summary: The company has given on going support, is continuing to improve the product, is adding new options and lines all the time. This is a saddle that has huge potential. This is the type of product you need to use for yourself to know if you like it or not. Lots of bells and whistles to play with.
