Purchase: I bought this helmet for show purposes in 2003. I paid $85.00 - $90.00 for it new at my local saddlery.
Likes: I am now primarily a jumper rider but I like the classic look of this low profile velvet show helmet. I do not care for the more popular GPA or IRH carbon-fiber helmets with the stripe down the middle. I certainly do not approve of them in the hunter ring. Compared to the price ($250 - $400) of newer GPA or IRH helmets this $90 Troxel show helmet is well worth the investment.
Dislikes: I have no complaints
Quality: I have had my Grand Prix Gold for 4 years now and it looks brand new. Granted, I have only used it for show (1-2 per month) and have kept in storage otherwise. I would not recommend this helmet for everyday use as it is velvet and could dirty very easily. The leather straps and stitching are in excellent condition with no signs of wear and tear. The button on top doubles as ventilation and keeps the head cool, even in 100 degree Texas heat!
Summary: I would recommend this helmet for anyone interested in showing, especially if you prefer a classic look. It is fairly inexpensive for what you get.
