Purchase: I bought this coat in England about 3 year ago from R&R Country Saddlery in Yorkshire. One of the more expensive coats on offer, I tried it and it was one of the few that fit. I bought this coat before moving back to the United States with the idea of using it for dressage. While it is considered a show coat in Europe, it is a little too 'fancy' for use in the hunter or even show jumping ring in America. It is a great option, however, for dressage
Likes: The Pytchley Hickstead Show Coat has probably the highest quality I've ever bought and worn in a dressage coat. The heavy wool fabric is warm in the winter, but still breathes in the summer. A note to dressage riders: buy quality! The heavier wool jackets, while they may be warm, exude quality and help you keep your shoulders back in the saddle! This jacket also had ample arm length off the rack, which I find to usually be a problem for me. It also had a unique royal blue satin lining, beautiful brass buttons, velvet collar, and two usable pockets, big enough to fit a Whinny Widgets test booklet in! (take note!).
Dislikes: The only thing that perhaps could be a drawback on the jacket is the weight. If you're used to lesser quality poly-blend jackets, you may have to ride a few times to get used to the quality and weight. There is also no stretch, so you may need to sacrifice some tailoring for maneuverability.
Quality: ABSOLUTELY the best quality I've yet owned. Very nice, heavy hemming on the coat, which helps in keeping a nice, quiet line down to the leg.
Summary: I highly recommend all Pytchley/Mears products. In dressage, your presentation at A can mean a lot, and I recommend you buy the best you can afford. Don't look for 'bargains'. . . unless you know the product well!
