Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Albion
Model: Legend 5000
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: Purchased from a local tack shop on consignment for $1200.

Likes: This was the only saddle that I could find, new or used, to fit my high-withered thoroughbred. It was a NM TB (Narrow medium, Thoroughbred cut) and it fit her perfectly. I have no complaints as far as how it fit my horse. The seat was very padded and cushiony, for those who like that. The leather is excellent quality and it always conditioned back to looking like new, no matter how long I neglected it.

Dislikes: I finally gave up this saddle because I don't like thigh blocks on the outside of the flaps. When I first got it, I didn't know anything about dressage saddles, but I learned that I had to keep my knees on top of the flaps in order to be in the right position, which was uncomfortable and created space between my thigh and the saddle. I have long thighs, but short calves and feel like this would be a good saddle for someone with wider hips, and long legs. It also has a fairly wide pommel, which didn't work for my narrow hips and close-together thighs! Also, the stitching in the back of the cantel started coming loose and I had to have it repaired by adding bolts, not sure if that is typical.

Quality: Wonder construction and leather quality.

Summary: High-quality, attractive saddle that works very well for high-withered horses. As far as rider comfort, you have to be shaped in a way that works for this saddle, it's probably not comfortable for everyone.
