Wintec
All Purpose Saddles
Manufacturer: Weathabeeta
Model: Wintec
Category: All Purpose Saddles
Purchase: Purchased at Horse Cents, in Fort Worth, I paid $500 on-the-nose for my Wintec all-purpose saddle. It has the additional CAIR air panels that increased the price from the base model. I purchased it because of the price, easy care, and most importantly, the changeable gullet system. I think Wintec now offers a full set of changeable gullets; Unfortunately I purchased mine before this offer and had to pay $30 for two more gullets. The gullet package is a good deal!
Likes: I have ridden in my new wintec saddle since the spring. The changeable gullet-system makes this a a versatile saddle that meets my needs for the young, developing horses I ride. The model I purchased has CAIR air panels (optional) which seem to make the saddle more comfy for their young backs. It is extremely light weight and durable, and I especially like that the saddle is
weatherproof and EASY to clean. I timed myself to see how quickly I could change the gullet (the first time I changed it) and it took me about 5 minutes. Not bad!
Dislikes: It still seems that some folks think leather is the only proper material for saddles. I don't think it is accepted in many show rings. Other than this bias, I cannot see a problem with it.
Quality: So far, the saddle has proved to be durable. One sees the contruction when changing the gullet, and it looks like it's put together and designed simply and well. I opted for the basic model that does not have the pseudo-suede; that might give a little more grip. The CAIR air panel has held up and I expect it to for a long time. I have a little nick in the cantle, but Horse Cents called Wintec, and they gave me instructions on repairing it right away. Customer service seem very efficient.
Summary: I recommend it for any horse and rider, especially for someone who is on a budget and/or rides developing horses or multiple horses with differing gullet widths. It's affordable and so far holds up well and is comfortable.
