Kensington
Cowboy Rope Halter and lead
Halters/Ropes/Leads

Manufacturer: Kensington
Model: Cowboy Rope Halter and lead
Category: Halters/Ropes/Leads

Purchase: This halter came with a horse I bought, actually, I liked it so well I insisted the seller include it with the horse! It is available in a couple different colors at smartpak and valley vet for around $33.00

Likes: I love the stiff cord used in the halter itself. It really holds it shape. The wrapped and braided noseband is stiff enough to make it work as a half bosal. I first rode my mare with it as a bridle. The lead is 12 feet, so it can be looped around and tied under the nose to make a rein. It's a great length for ground work, longeing and ponying too. I like the little leather popper on the end. It provides a nice finish to the end of the rope.

Dislikes: I am not used to tying a cowboy halter, so I just leave it tied and slip it over my horse's head. BEWARE: the photos in the catalogs show the halter tied incorrectly and UNSAFELY. Educate yourself in the safe way to tie the halter. The lead is supposed to be able to unloop and remove, but mine has pulled so tight that it might never come off. I've never needed to, though.

Quality: Heavy filled cord and nice knots. Never comes loose. It frays over time, but only on the surface. I like the way it keeps its shape.

Summary: One all around useful item- great for groundwork, longeing, anti-pullback/tie training (I use it with the Blocker tie ring). I love it for ponying too! The safety, durability and versatility make it worth the price of 3 or more cheapie halters. You know they're good when they hardly ever show up used on eBay!!
