Purchase: I received this saddle pad as a gift two years ago. However, as I understand, these saddle pads retail around $229.
Likes: I like the colors this pad comes in, and I like the "wash-ability". I am an endurance racer and it is very easy to use. It also cushions saddle trees that may be ever so slightly misshapen against the horse's back. With that said, let me state this pad is no solution to a poor fitting saddle. The durability is okay and the pad itself seems to hold up okay. The pad doesn't slip when dry, but after creek crossing or 6 hour hot rides, the pad has a very slight tendency to be a little more slippery.
Dislikes: This pad, when wet, can be up to 5 or 6 pounds and more if fully soaked. The statements made on the Equipedic website state that the pad is completely machine washable. But this is not the case. The pads are a HASSLE to wash, and the one time I did put it in the washing machine, it jammed up my machine and started to tear a small hole in the underside of the saddle pad. The gel inserts are difficult to take out and put back in, as required every time the pad is cleaned.
Quality: The gray material under the pad has "balled up" after two years, and the leather at the bottom will crack and shred if the pad is washed frequently (as has happened to my riding partner). However, considering all the miles I have put on this pad, it has held up pretty well.
Summary: It is a good pad, but will need to be replaced every couple of years, and does not quite live up to every claim made by the manufacturers. I would give it 3 1/2 stars, except that is not an option.
