Trail Saddles
Manufacturer: Tucker
Model: Buffalo
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle from a tack store in Kamloops, B.C. I had read about it, liked the look of it, and we own two other Tucker saddles that we like very much. I paid $2300.
Likes: I like the look of the saddle and in particular I like the 6" cantle for security of holding you in the saddle. I like the gel seat for comfort. I like the design of the bars of the Tucker saddles to allow shoulder freedom for the horses. We have two Tucker High Plains saddles--one wide tree and one medium--and we needed another wide tree saddle. I like the Tucker Buffalo even better than the High Plains model. I find the twist seems a little narrower for closer contact and the swell is a little narrower too which I like. Also I find the rise in the seat a little flatter/less steep than the High Plains which I like very much.
Dislikes: So far can't think of anything I don't like. The Tucker saddles are great fitting on the horses and comfortable for the rider.
Quality: The construction is good to very good. These saddles aren't fancy, but they are nicely and sturdily put together. Just remember to buy the tree size that is appropriate for your horses. We have QH's and generally they all require the wide tree. I do notice that the seat size in my new Tucker is a little smaller than the same size in the Tucker High Plains that we bought several years ago, and when I measured it it is 1/2" smaller than the 16.5 inch saddles we bought in the past. A plus is the Buffalo feels a little lighter than the High Plains.
Summary: We have owned Tucker saddles for the last 5 years, and are very pleased with the comfort for us, and the tree design to allow free shoulder movement for the horses. The saddles are a little plain looking with leather that is sturdy but not as fancy as say a Crates, but if you're looking for durability and comfort for horse and rider you can't go wrong.
