Purchase: I ride with Old Macs hoof boots on my horse's hind feet so that I only have to shoe her in front. The boots were rubbing her raw, so I bought the new neoprene pastern wraps made by Old Macs from Dover Saddlery for $19.95.
Likes: The pastern wraps completely prevented the rubbing and chafing caused by the boots. They are easy to get on and take off. After use they wash clean with soap and water.
Dislikes: Nothing I don't like except I think they should be included with each pair of boots Old Macs sells, as part of the package.
Quality: They are made from black neoprene which is form fitted to the horse's heel bulbs and pastern shape. The neoprene is perforated to dissipate heat. They velcro onto the boot so there is no twisting or bunching up. The quality looks fine, and I wait to see how they hold up to constant use. I suspect the trick to making them last is to clean them if they get muddy, etc.
Summary: If you want to use Old Macs, but your horse has thin skin or is prone to scratches, you need this product.
