Purchase: I bought this halter (or headcollar for UK'ers) new from the UK Ebay for about £10.00 (they usually retail anywhere from £24.99- £30.00) for my Arab mare. I love pink tack and always wanted a nice leather headcollar but they always seemed to be beyond what my budget can afford.
Likes: I love the heavy brass fittings, the colour, the feel of the leather and the fact that the noseband and crownpiece is adjustable as well as having a hook for easy on and off use. The noseband and crownpiece is padded with dark pink leather for comfort.
Dislikes: It's, um, VERY generous in sizing! I bought the "full size" for my 14.2 Arab thinking that because it's adjustable, I could put it on the smallest setting for her and then make it bigger for another horse. I had to punch extra holes in the leather for her to make it smaller and it's STILL a bit big! Even left on the smallest setting made with my extra holes, it STILL has room to spare for her 16.2 Dutch Warmblood mare stablemate!!
Because it is still a bit big on my Arab, I would not trust turning her out in it or leaving her unattended with it on but it's fine for tying her up for grooming and tacking up.
Quality: Heritage brand saddlery seems to have a reputation for being low to mid range quality tack but this headcollar is very well made and is not made from cheapo stiff cardboard leather. The leather is soft and I feel that it will last a long time.
Summary: Although it is a very beautiful and well made halter, I would suggest buying a size down than what you would normally buy due to the very generous sizing. If your horse normally needs an "extra full size" headcollar, then just buy the normal full size, etc.
