Purchase: I bought this saddle online from Chick's Discount Saddlery in 2002 for $200. I had just gotten my first horse and needed a cheap saddle. The price was good, that's about it.
Likes: The color, I guess. It's Havana brown.
Dislikes: Where to start, well, first the saddle would not break in. I would ride and ride and ride in it and clean it after every ride yet the flaps were still as hard as rocks. I had ordered a medium sized tree yet the tree actually came as a medium-narrow. The pommel squeaked as I trotted in it and if I put my hand on the pommel I could feel the tree moving around as if it was broken (probably was) which caused me to ultimately stop using it. The stitching on the saddle wasn't very good and the dye on the saddle rubbed off where my leg was after only 4 months of use. All in all the was a piece of cr@p.
Quality: Pretty bad. Stitching came loose and the tree was very faulty. I believe it was made in India so it obviously wasn't made of real leather,(it is very grainy).
Summary: I still have this saddle except it is just collecting dust in my barn. It is not an ugly saddle as one would think with a cheap saddle package, it was just made faulty which just goes to show you get what you pay for. Don't buy from Chick's; its called "Discount" for a reason. Spend the money and get quality equipment that will last you a long time. I had a new saddle within 4 months.
