Manufacturer: Rocking T Saddlery
Model: Roper-Custom with Extra Wide Tree
Category: Show Saddles

Purchase: I ordered this saddle through C & W Saddlery in Lebanon, Oregon who had it made by Rocking T Saddlery in Texas. I have a mustang mare who is extremely wide and flat backed and made her sore every time we went to the mountains. She only stand 15.1,but in top shape weighs in at 1350 lbs. This saddle is halfway between a full quarter horse bars and a draft horse bars. The cost of the saddle was $1600 with sheepskin and a breast collar three years ago.

Likes: I had it made with basket weave and halfbreed. I got it on the first of October one year and 6 days later took it to Central Oregon for 7 days to gather cattle in. It was only on the horse three times before I left. It has the Hamley twist to the fenders to relieve pressure on the knee and I use 1 1/2" oxbows on it. I rode 10 hours a day for 7 days and neither the horse or I ever got sore. The marks that all of the other saddles that I have tried left on her have almost disappeared from her shoulders and I no longer have to use a breechin all of the time. When you have an extremely wide horse the saddle often is very painful to ride and this saddle fits my horse and is very comfortable even when we are sliding down a muddy hillside I always feel like it is going to stay on her and under me. The Saturday after the 4th of July this year I was riding down a country road and some kids driving by through firecrackers under the mare and she jumped off the road and into the ditch to get away and the saddle did not move and I was not pulled up tight, this is the only saddle that I have had on her that I could ride without cutting her in two.

Dislikes: The only thing to go wrong with the saddle in three years is a Montana Silver concho screw broke this summer when we were cleaning the saddle.

Quality: I have been using this saddle hard for the past three years and it still looks almost new and the leather is top quality and has held up to being rained and snowed on as I ride outside year round in western Oregon, I clean it twice a year and lightly oil it and that is all of the care it gets. All of the components are of the best quality and have held up to everything I have thrown at it including colts jumping in the middle of it.

Summary: I have had a number of saddles over the years and this saddle has been the toughest and best of all of them. The quality of workmanship is excellent and they were on a tight time frame when I ordered it and they made it. I cannot say enough about how much I like working with both Wendall Branton who ordered it for me and the people at Rocking T Saddlery who do such good work.
