Purchase: I bought this rope halter at the local feed/tack store (Wilco). It was $13.99. I had previously used a standard nylon web halter for leading my horse and a Clinton Anderson rope halter/lead for training. My horse is somewhat green and would lean on the web halter when tied; the Clinton Anderson halter was a little too harsh for regular tying use and would rub bare spots on her nose. My trainer recommended this halter.
Likes: This halter is nice and soft; for everyday use, one doesn't need the extra knots and stiffness of the Clinton Anderson halter. Other brands I looked at also had a very stiff rope and the metal end on the halter would smack the horse or the person if flipped over the poll to prepare it for tying. My mare is very responsive to the halter and now that she is further in her training, I don't even use my VERY expensive Clinton Anderson halter. I also like the long lead rope that comes with it. It is detachable, but there is no hardware. It is a 7 1/2' lead. The noseband and crown are doubled rope.
Dislikes: The only thing I do not like about the halter is that the lead has a knotted end, so when used with a Blocker tie ring, it will only give to 7 1/2' before the knot reaches the ring and locks up.
Quality: This halter is of equal quality to my Clinton Anderson halter, though, obviously, it serves a different purpose & is therefore made of different materials.
Summary: For every-day use, this is the perfect rope halter. It is soft, while not allowing a horse to lean on it. It has a lead long enough to do pre-ride ground work with or just do some ground work while hanging out w/ my horse.
