Purchase: I had an old Circle Y saddle for years and have loved it but found that my aging wrists did not like lifting it anymore so I investigated the Flex Lites saddles. I ended up finding them on clearance at the Grange in Grants Pass, OR. I bought the Omaha first for $1100.00, then a month later they dropped the prices again and I purchased the Oregon model for $711.00.
Likes: I like the lightness of these saddles, no more aching wrists. The soft leather, seat and fenders were also a plus. They seem to fit my horses much better, especially in combination with my Impact Gel Pads. Since they fit better you don't have to have the cinch as tight, which my horses appreciate.
Dislikes: I should have turned the saddle upside down to really look at the quality. It seems like every point where they could skimp on not putting leather, they didn't. For instance, my old 80's Circle Y was finished throughout, the flex lites have nylon billets and under the cantle and horn it is just tacked up, not solid.
Quality: See above notes. The nylon billets don't have enough holes and they didn't burn the holes through properly so after just a few uses they are already frayed and I will have to replace the whole thing. I know they are trying to make these saddles light but the quality is poor compared to my older Circle Y.
Summary: I'm happy overall with the lightness and the price I paid for these saddles but I think I'd look into Big Horns or other brands next time.
