Purchase: Bought my Dakota saddle back in '95. I fell in love with the Aztec pattern on a Dakota roper saddle on display, but saddle was WAY too heavy. Dealer called the company, and they agreed to adjust their Aztec tooling stamp to go on the saddle of my choice. Also on the breast collar I ordered with it so they would match. And for a mere $60 extra. I was impressed. Total price was $505.00
Likes: I don't take care of saddles. At all. This one has been in 3 ponds, across numerous creeks, and on horses so sweaty that the saddle has gotten very dark. It's been tossed on ground thousands of times, rained on once or twice, and hosed off on at least one occasion. Stitching has remained nice and tight, and only now am I looking at a repair to it: One of the stirrup fenders has rubbed on rigging to the point of being dangerously thin.
Dislikes: Only thing I would fault it on is my knees hurt in it after a couple hours, and it squeaks loudly and endlessly , even after several doses of baby powdering.
Quality: Well built, and while I've watched friends agonize over what saddle will fit their foxtrotter (gaited) horses, I've sorta laughed, cause this ole semi-quarter horse bar saddle has been on dozens of different horses over the years, and only found one or two that it didn't fit well.
Summary: All in all, this saddle is comfy to ride, and extremely durable. And for the price, heck, you can afford to replace one every 10, 15 years if you don't want to be troubled with taking lots of time and care with a saddle.
Usefulness Rating: 2.6 out of 5.
