Purchase: This saddle was being sold for $649.99 at Petsmart (State Line) because it had been previously returned. I happened to buy it there at Petsmart for $455 because they were eradicating their State Line section. I needed a new saddle for my Thoroughbred mare and the spring tree seemed like it would be a good option.
Likes: The is more comfortable than most Courbette saddles and compared to the Galant the knee blocks don't protrude out. I am typically a 17.5" seat but in the Alpina I am a 17". My upper thighs are also on the longer side and the flaps seem to accommodate me well. My mare seems to like this saddle and the fit on her back - she is a Medium/Narrow in most brands and usually swims in the Medium tree. The color of this saddle (chocolate) is easy to match to other brands of leather which makes shopping for fittings less restrictive. Since I bought the saddle new I got a Courbette key chain, nameplate, and registration card.
Dislikes: The leather on the flaps is smooth so until it gets broken in its difficult to get a grip on the flap. The billets are a little short for my taste and also don't quite match - luckily no one can see those!
Quality: This seems to be well made for the price and the quality of the leather is better than that of similarly priced saddles.
Summary: Its a good saddle for the money, its comfortable, and it has Courbette quality. Though it takes time to break in properly it is worth the investment of your time.
