Purchase: I bought this at our largest tack store in the state. I actually needed a new saddle because the one I was riding was too large for my bottom (a 17"!!!). I used to run NBHA as well as other local barrel racing circuits, so I wanted to get a barrel saddle. They had their once a year saddle sale at the time I went, so I purchased it 10% off, and the total came to about $900.
Likes: It's beautiful, it's comfortable, it's put together well... there isn't much I DON'T like about the saddle. The tooling is beautiful and unique. The rawhide accent on the cantle really ties it together.
Dislikes: I actually originally purchased semi-QH bars, and it was really too narrow for any horse I had. I special ordered the "wide tree" that alamo offers, and it is still a little narrow. It bridges a little on my new barrel horse, so I'm a little disappointed with that.
Quality: Definitely comparable to Circle Y. When I received it, there are a few things that I wasn't too happy with. There was some stitching coming out of the skirt by the off billet. The horn cap wasn't set completely level/even. And the stamping on the stirrup straps was unevenly done. Other than that (me being totally picky) I really love the saddle. The leather is thick and colored evenly.
Summary: Love it. I think the saddle was made for me. It fits me perfectly in every way... I didn't even have to adjust the stirrups out of the box! :) I would recommend it to just about anyone! But make sure it fits your horse well before purchasing... and if you have anything other than a thoroughbred or narrow horse, I would order the wide tree.
