Purchase: I bought this saddle online from Jeffers Equine for $239 with free shipping. I wanted to try this saddle out and see if it was worth the price. I thought it sounded very comfortable and since I ride a haflinger, the treeless saddle would be nice too. I also wanted to try it to see if I could use it for strengthening my jumping skills.
Likes: I like the comfort of the saddle very much. The color is nice and the stirrups it comes with are highly adjustable. There is also a carry handle on the pommel that makes it very easy to tote around.
Dislikes: I don't like how little contact you make with the horse's side. The thickness of the foam places your calf far out from the horse, similar to how you ride western. The ring the stirrups attach to are set at an odd angle that makes them feel awkward. I also think the price is outrageous for what you get. This is basically a glorified bareback pad and for almost $250 it seems like a rip off. As far as the jumping exercises I would like to do, the contact is so poor I will just stick to jumping bareback to help me practice.
Quality: The construction is OK. I'm not sure how long this saddle would last because all pieces are glued together and seem like they could easily peel apart after time. There are rings to strap a breastcollar on that are made out of plastic and seem easily breakable. They would be nicer if they were made out of the same steel rings like the rigging.
Summary: This would make a nice trail saddle or a bareback pad for someone who wants to ride for pleasure around the property. I would definitely recommend a non slip pad for underneath the saddle. I hope they come down in price in the future.
