All Purpose Saddles
Manufacturer: Ansur
Model: Classic
Category: All Purpose Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this saddle from the Manufacturer, Ansur Saddlery, for $2,775.
Likes: Lazy-Boy recliner feel to the seat
Dislikes: Just about everything! I spoke with a representative of the company trying to find a demo too give it a trial ride. There were no 'distributors' in my area, so I was told to order one & try it out that way, which I did. I had explained that I have LONG legs & was told this was not a problem, actually, longer legs were even better in this saddle. When I received the saddle, I was shocked at the look of it - there was a mark on the rear that looked as if a horse had bitten it! Then I rode in it. Mounting my horse & sitting in it I found my backside LOVED it, yet I found I had to lengthen my stirrup to never-never land to get my knees from overextending past the knee roll. When I contacted the company about this, I was told it was more a Dressage feel & that this was actually the proper way to ride. I could not accustom myself to this & contacted them to return it, as I did not like it. I was told this was very disappointing to them as they don't have people return this absolutely wonderful saddle & maybe I just can't accustom myself to riding properly! I was also told there would be a restocking fee - EEK, I wouldn't have ordered it for a 'trial' if I had known this! I would question myself before dealing with them unless you can find a distributor & test ride a true 'demo' saddle. Pressure is the name of the game!!
Quality: I did not like the construction or the quality - the rear of the saddle looked as if a horse had bitten it & the stitching was a little off. For the hefty price tag I would expect near perfection, which it was not!
Summary: I would only try this saddle if I had a demo & I would be careful with the fact that there is no spinal clearance for the horse. Padding always make the saddle fit better, according to the makers, yet I don't want to spend another $400-600 for padding after paying this much for the saddle!
