Purchase: I purchased this saddle on ebay from Kelly at NetFilly for about $1200 including shipping. I've been looking for a saddle with an extra wide tree to fit my very round, very broad, low-withered Oldenburg mare. I'd tried three separate saddles by various makers but was having a terrible time finding a good fit for us. The seller was able to answer all my questions and even accepts wither tracings, although I didn't use one.
Likes: I love how softly this saddle sits on my mare. I hadn't realized how bothered we'd both been by the saddle we'd been borrowing until this one came! She loosened right up and became so much more responsive-something we'd been struggling with! I had my trainer ride in it and she also found it very comfortable to sit in. I found that for the first time in months my hips and back weren't hurting when I got off. The saddle stayed firmly in place when I was in it and only slid forward slightly while lunging in side reins. It seems to distribute the pressure very evenly laterally and horizontally. The thigh blocks helped my leg position immediately - there is a "sweet spot" in this saddle where you naturally fall into the correct position!
Dislikes: The leather is a bit stiff but I'm working it regularly and it should soften up nicely. I was advised that the seat sizes run a little small with this saddle so I purchased an 18 but I find the size running very true to normal in dressage saddles and probably would have been happier sticking with a 17 1/2. Still, the saddle is constructed that even though the seat is slightly large for me I still sit naturally in the center of it and I don't feel like I'm having to fight to stay there. The young woman training my mare is quite a bit thinner than I am and she also found that she naturally sat in the middle of the saddle without effort. There are a few places where the stitching is slightly bobbled but it looks like a machine issue-the seam is still very tight.
Quality: The seat is very well padded and the panels are wool-flocked and very even. The leather and stitching are all very sound and the overall construction seems great. The item arrived well packaged and in perfect condition.
Summary: Overall, this is a much nicer saddle than I thought I would get for $1200. The leather isn't as soft as a more expensive saddle but it is quality leather and very well put together. The 36cm tree fits my mare beautifully and the seat is very comfortable-the longer I ride in this saddle the better it gets!
