Courbette
Bernina Dressage
Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Courbette
Model: Bernina Dressage
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: I purchased this saddle new off eBay for only $850.00. This saddle as purchased as an interim saddle while waiting to sell my Passier that no longer fits my Appaloosa and is too wide for my Standardbred.

Likes: The Bernina has a very comfortable deep seat. The leather is of very good quality. What I like best about this saddle is that it fits both my horses. My Appaloosa is very wide and bid shouldered and his back is starting to drop a bit from age. My Standardbred while also big shouldered has low withers and is much more narrow than my appy. Before I got this saddle my appy did not like doing extended work and his collected work was only so-so. With this saddle his big shoulders are free to move and he now loves to do extended work and his passage and piaffe are getting much better.

Dislikes: After riding my Passier for years I can say that this is a big let down. But then Passier is in a completely different class and price range. Being fairly tall and long legged at 5" 10", I find the flaps a bit short. Also I do not like large thigh blocks and this saddle has them. I feel the large thigh blocks restricts my leg movement.

Quality: The quality is what you expect from Courbette. A very good lower to medium priced line of saddles. The stitching is good and tight and the leather is very good. I find the seat very comfortable and secure.

Summary: I will keep and ride this saddle until my Passier Lenox sells and then go looking for something else. Who knows maybe I'll decide to keep it and have the thigh blocks made smaller.
