Purchase: I purchased my first two at Fleet farm for roughly $26 each. My third came from Tractor Supply for $35
Likes: This is an inexpensive, portable unit that can be used in any type of stock tank. They are easy to find at most livestock supply stores and are cheap to replace.
Dislikes: My first one actually melted the extension cord and posed a fire hazard. The second one worked fine, although the cord is not protected at all, so the farmer's dog chewed through the cord. The cord could have better protection against rodents and dogs and I would have concerns using it around barn areas, having seen one melt my extension cord and short out the electrical socket.
Quality: This unit has a metal bracket that can attach to the bottom for rubber tanks. This is not required for metal tanks. Although this is nice, it poses some questions as to why it would get hot enough to melt plastic or rubber. This is supposed to heat the tank to 64 degrees, and has an automatic shut-off.
Summary: Good cost for the money, although I have been replacing them at a rate of 1.5 per year. They seem to be durable, but I would not use them near barns due to how hot they heat.
