Purchase: This unit is available through Dover saddlery for $50. I purchased mine barely used for $10. I bought it as a dressage training aide.
Likes: This is an inexpensive siderein that has elastic give rather than donut holes, so there is more flexibility and stretch. It balances evenly and allows the horse to flex and turn his head without interference. It is completely adjustable and works on horses from my 15.1 hand paint to my 17.1 hand thoroughbred.
Dislikes: There really isn't much, but if I were pressed to say something, I would say that it isn't made for smaller horses. It is quite loose on my 14.2 hand quarter horse mare, and thus is not the best choice for ponies unless you want to put more holes in it.
Quality: Elastic ends attach to the bit without the distractingly ugly donut ring in the middle. Leather is supple and easy to manage. Easy on/off.
Summary: Excellent piece of schooling tack for training and inexperienced riders. Highly recommended.
