Purchase: This is available at most tack stores and most equine health catalogs for about $6 per tube. I purchase mine locally and online.
Likes: There is an ample supply in each tube, and it does what it says it is supposed to do: keeps flies off, keeps the wound clean, and heals. I used this twice daily in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide after my gelding smashed open his face at the boarding stable and needed a facial reconstructive surgery, which involved removing parts of bone! Within 60 days his face was practically back to normal, and he never got an infection (which would have cost him his eye), which my vet said that he was almost certain to get. I have used this on all levels of wounds, from the very minor to the very major and it is even effective against rain rot with a single application.
Dislikes: If you pressed me, I would have to say the color. Not because I think yellow is ugly, but because it is the same color and consistency of pus from an infected wound, so you actually need to touch it to see that it is much stickier and that yes, it is the treatment and not an infection that my horse has. I would be very hard pressed to think of anything else.
Quality: The best wound dressing available regardless of price. Keep a tube handy in your trailer and in your barn at all times for emergencies. This stuff does what it claims and is inexpensive enough that everyone should have one, no excuses. Best of all, unlike NFZ, it does not pose a health hazard to humans.
Summary: Everyone should own this product, regardless of the size of your operation. It is inexpensive, easy to store, lasts forever, and they give you plenty of it. It's just a basic horse care supply, like a halter or hoof pick, but probably safer for the horse owner than most products out there (you don't need to wear gloves to apply this one, because it is not a carcinogen).
