Purchase: I purchased this from Country Supply for approximately $50 for use around the barn when I needed to do a light trim or in case there was a hoof emergency with my horses.
Likes: It is very inexpensive for a farrier chap. It is durable and the horses cannot tear it.
Dislikes: To begin with, I don't like the color. That may seem trite, but when Country Supply says something will be in assorted earthtones, I assume browns and tans. They sent me a sherbert-green color. I am all for pretty colors, like on halters and leg wraps...but not on my chaps.
But that's not all. Although they're one-size-fit-all, that's only maybe if you're a normal man. I had to put several knots in the straps because I just couldn't get it tight enough to stay on my waist and not fall down. The chaps themselves are hugely big on me, too. They're thick and heavy and uncomfortable, falling at odd angles and in odd places, even after they are knotted into place.
Quality: Thick suede flaps without any reinforcement or stitching. They are attached to a nylon strap which is adjustable. They snap into place with a plastic snap. They are plenty thick and heavy, although I question the reliability of the snap for heavy work.
Summary: Not for professionals, but doable if you're not going to be using it much and don't want to spend $200 on a pair of nice farrier chaps. They do keep you clean and offer some protection for your legs.
